Fun Fall Activities to do with your Family
With its changing colors and cool crisp temperatures, fall is a great time to spend time outdoors with your family. Trust Maid Right to take care of the house cleaning while you get out and enjoy all the season has to offer. Take your kids on a nature walk and talk about what you see along the way. Bring along a small bag for each child to collect interesting items – wildflowers, a pretty feather or a handful of colorful leaves. Or take your child to an apple orchard or a pumpkin patch – or the farmer’s market or produce section of the supermarket if you like. Then use your finds for more fall fun.
Make a placemat. Make your child’s place at the table special with a placemat he made himself from colorful leaves. Start with a 2-foot piece of wax paper. Place it on the table, with a rigid piece of cardboard or brown paper grocery bag underneath, and have your child arrange leaves or other flat items on it. Then top with another piece of wax paper, iron the two pieces together and use scissors to trim as desired.
Create a lawn decoration. Make a scarecrow for your front yard by stuffing an old shirt and jeans with straw or dry leaves. Tie pants at the ankles and the shirt at the cuffs to hold in stuffing and then add boots and gloves (safety pin or sew them to the ends of the shirt sleeves) and a stuffed pillow case or pumpkin for the head. Be sure to paint on face and top with a hat!
Paint pumpkins. Jack-o-lanterns are lots of fun but they don’t last long once you’ve cut them. This year, enjoy your scary pumpkin faces for weeks by having your kids paint them on instead. If you still want a jack-o-lantern, use the painted faces to guide you in cutting your pumpkins a day or two before Halloween. Then add a candle or – better yet, a glass of hot water, salt and dry ice for an extra scary effect!
Cook up some caramel apples. For a sweet fall classic made easy, place apples on sticks and dip into a mixture of 14 ounces of caramels and 2 Tbsp or water heated on the stove and stirred until melted. Prepare bowls of apple toppings – coarsely chopped nuts, sprinkles, miniature marshmallows, chocolate chips, crushed cookies – and let kids dip apples in their favorites. Refrigerate for one hour, then let sit for 15 minutes at room temperature before enjoying.
