2019 is going to be a good year – we can just feel it. January is the time to be making resolutions for the new year but if you stop there, only at making them, then you’ll end up disappointed. You have togo beyond making the resolution – make the plan to help you reach your goals.
One very common goal is to de-stress. Stress has been scientifically proven to be terrible for your health. It can cause insomnia, poor health, high blood-pressure, weight gain and even cut your life-span short. Avoiding stress is a great way to start 2019 on the right foot.
The problem is that stress – and things that make you stressful – are everywhere. Many Americans say one major source of stress for them is their job, but you can’t quit that. Families can also cause stress(even though we love ‘em) and you can’t really avoid that either. Maybe you can try listening to some meditative music in the car during your commute but something tells us that that won’t go very far.
Here are some ideas to de-stress your normal, every-day tasks to take the “edge” off. Things can still seem burdensome butif you set yourself up for success, the stress can melt away.
Listen, the last thing anyone wants at the end of the day is to come home and make a dinner that half the family will refuse to eat anyway.Ugh. You want to come home and kick up your feet to a lovely meal, no? Embrace the idea of the meal prep. With a family this can seem daunting but you’ll learn how to make most of the food ahead of time, store it for the week, and then spend much less time in the kitchen during the week. For example, spend Sunday roasting a large chicken for dinner. Carve up the remains for chicken salad on Monday, chicken pot-pie on Tuesday and throw the carcass in a big pot to make broth. Boil for a couple hours, then the day-of, add carrots and noodles and voila, Wednesday dinner is chicken noodle soup. Being strategic can really take a load off.
Take the time to exercise
This can sound insane because with all the millions of things you have going on during the week, the last thing you have time for is a work out session! But working out can seriously lower your overall stress levels and help you deal with stress better throughout the week. Set really attainable goals for yourself – like a 30-minute cardio sesh three times a week, and don’t worry what the fitness experts say. Know that just getting a shot of heart-pumping exercise will make your overall stress level mellow out.
Make time for yourself
Stress comes not necessarily from the amount of things you have to do, but the lack of time you have for yourself.Setting time aside for self-care is massively important to maintain a healthy state of mind.
